Sell Dell, If It's Not Too Late, Market Share Loss Worse Than Expected
UBS today lowered its earnings estimates and price target on Dell (DELL), saying that the company is going through large PC share losses in the US and Europe. He says results for the fiscal fourth quarter ending January will be “even weaker than we had originally expected.” UBS says that according to IDC, Dell’s calendar fourth quarter worldwide PC units declined 8%, compared with a 24% gain for Hewlett-Packard.
You know what happens when PC makers lose market share? They lower prices. Lower prices = lower margins. It's that simple. The probem with Dell in our view is that they long stopped innovating. Apple in contrast is developing hardware that folks will pay a premium for and it is being rewarded for it.
